The Braun Dinasty
In Magellan, Mr. and Mrs. Elías BRAUN received from
the Chilean government a small plot of land, some
animals and food for six months in exchange for settling
in the zone.
In two decades, the BRAUN family had gained control
over nearly 1.376.160 hectares of land in the Argentinian
and Chilean Patagonia.
In those lands they raised 1.250.000 sheep that produced
yearly 5.000 million kilograms of wool, 700 thousand
kilograms of leather and 2.500.000 kilograms of meat.
The BRAUN properties covered since the Chubut in Argentina
to the Strait of Magellan.
The BRAUN also owned a mining company that exploited
copper, banks, ships, insurance companies, telephone
services, etc.
The BRAUN family from Magellan has descendents in
both Chile and Argentina.
